This happened to me back in the summer of 1998, and I swear, I still can’t shake it off. My friends and I decided to camp in Whispering Woods, a place locals claimed was haunted. We didn’t buy into the stories—after all, it just sounded like superstitions. I wish we had listened.
We reached the site around sunset, set up camp, and spent the evening laughing by the fire, sharing ghost stories for the fun of it. Everything was normal—until it wasn’t.
Around midnight, just as we started to settle into our tents, we heard what sounded like faint whispers. At first, I thought it was the wind, but then I noticed—there wasn’t even the slightest breeze. The whispers were low and constant, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t make out what they were saying. It was unsettling, but my friends laughed it off, calling it our imaginations.
But the whispers didn’t stop.
An hour later, one of my friends, Alex, stepped out of the tent, claiming he heard someone calling his name. We followed him, trying to convince him to come back, but he insisted someone was out there. He kept walking further into the woods. We were shouting for him to stop, but then he turned to face us—and that’s when I knew something was horribly wrong.
His face looked blank, almost…off, as if he wasn’t fully there. Without saying a word, he turned back around and kept walking into the darkness. We didn’t dare follow. Eventually, we lost sight of him.
We ran back to camp and called for help on the emergency phone we had, but by the time the search party arrived, Alex was gone. They found no sign of him, just his flashlight left on the forest floor. We were questioned by the authorities, of course, but no one believed us when we told them about the whispers. To this day, Alex has never been found. And I’ll tell you this—if you ever hear whispers in Whispering Woods, don’t ignore them. Just leave.
