The Cabin in the Snow: A Harrowing Idaho Encounter sent by Eric from Newyork.
In January 2016, Eric, a middle school teacher from Boise, Idaho, rented a small cabin in a remote area for a quiet weekend getaway. It had been a tough semester, and he needed time to unwind, far from the constant noise of the city. The cabin was cozy—rustic, but with all the essentials. It was nestled deep in the woods, surrounded by miles of snow-covered trees.
His first day was peaceful. He spent it reading by the fireplace, enjoying the solitude. That night, as the wind howled outside, Eric woke to the sound of scratching. It was faint at first, like branches brushing against the walls. But it wasn’t windy enough to move the trees. He listened closely, heart pounding, as the scratching grew louder and more deliberate.
He got up, grabbed a flashlight, and cautiously peeked out the window. Nothing. Just the endless stretch of dark woods. He reassured himself it was an animal and went back to bed.
The next evening, the scratching returned. This time, it wasn’t just on one wall—it seemed to circle the cabin, moving from one side to another. It was too rhythmic, too consistent to be random. Eric felt the hairs on his neck stand up. Then came the knock. A single, heavy knock at the front door.
Terrified, Eric froze. “Who’s there?” he called out, his voice trembling. No answer. He debated whether to open the door but decided against it. Instead, he turned off all the lights and stayed as quiet as he could.
Hours passed, and Eric finally drifted off on the couch. Around 3 a.m., he woke to the feeling of something watching him. His breath hitched as he slowly turned his head toward the window. There, pressed against the glass, was the outline of a face, pale and expressionless. He scrambled for his phone, but it was gone—along with the keys he had left on the table.
Eric didn’t sleep for the rest of the night. At first light, he bolted out of the cabin, heading for his car. But when he reached it, the tires were slashed. His phone and keys lay on the hood, placed there deliberately. He never looked back as he ran down the snowy road until he found a passing car.
Eric later learned that two other people who rented that same cabin had reported similar experiences. No one knows who—or what—lurks in those woods.
